APN New Zealand and The New Zealand Herald are launching a Careers & Education Expo in September staged at the ASB Showground in Auckland.
APN New Zealand Publishing CEO Martin Simons said the company was committed to delivering international standard exhibitions, ensuring a high level of satisfaction for both exhibitors and visitors.
“It is exciting to be involved in the creation of this new business under The New Zealand Herald name and to be able to launch two major exhibitions in the first year,” he said (The other expo being the Ultimate Outdoor Expo at the end of November).
“With so much in the media about work/life balance, career and education options and skills shortages, we feel an obligation to keep our readers informed of all the choices that are available – and to bring them these choices in an environment that allows face-to-face discussions with the right people to help them make educated decisions about their careers and their leisure time.”
APN was fortunate to be able to draw on an experienced exhibition organising team within the company, led by Michael Scott, to set up the new business in New Zealand.
The strength of the company’s other brands – including APN Outdoor, The Radio Network, The New Zealand Woman’s Weekly, New Zealand Listener and the regional newspaper network – gave it unparalleled connection with a wide variety of New Zealanders.
“It is a very strong platform from which to develop a number of very successful exhibitions,” Simons said.
The New Zealand Herald Careers & Education Expo
The New Zealand Herald Careers & Education Expo being held Saturday 27 to Sunday 28 September will provide an opportunity for a variety of organisations to showcase their range of high quality education and employment benefits in a face-to-face environment with an audience of targeted visitors interested in further education, training, employment advice or seeking a specific new job. Special initiatives will cater to the needs of those job sectors that are suffering from critical skills shortages including the implementation of a“VIP” programme.
For the benefit of both exhibitors and visitors, segregated pavilions will include post graduate study including MBAs, apprenticeships and trades, undergraduate study, professional development, “employer of choice” and recruitment agencies. Additional activities including seminars relating to each of these sectors will also be conducted over the 2 days of the exhibition.
To ensure that visitors can easily navigate their way around the expo, the show has been split into four pavilions each catering to a particular type of career path or phase. The pavilions are:
Kickstart
This pavilion is geared towards people starting their career, changing their career or looking to make choices about further study to support a specific career path. A range of information and specific opportunities will be presented for those who are about to graduate, want to learn a trade, need specific advice on what career will suit their strengths or simply learn how to go about getting a new job. Exhibitors will include: Universities, ITO’s, Polytechnics, private colleges and organisations that are seeking to directly employ graduates or school leavers.
JRA Great Places to Work
This pavilion will target visitors seeking to research an employer that best suits their needs or explore specific selection criteria with organisations that could be future employers. Exhibitors in this pavilion will be proud of their employment practices and eager to demonstrate why prospective employees would want to work for them. These companies will be able to direct individuals to specific study options that will enhance their worth to the company and to those organisations or institutions who provide these services. Exhibitors will include a range of organisations from amongst New Zealand’s top 500 companies.
Fast Track
The Fast Track pavilion is designed for individuals wishing to further develop their skills sets and options through professional development programmes and post graduate study including MBA’s. Exhibitors will include: Training organisations, domestic and international universities, private colleges and career advisors. Many of these organisations will have affiliations with companies exhibiting in the Great Places to Work pavilion and will be able to cross reference each other for the benefit of the visitor.
New Directions
This pavilion will showcase options for those who believe they want to improve or change their work / life balance. This may be achieved either by considering a move to another “more desirable” location or by exploring the path to new or self-employment. Exhibitors will include: Government, local and provincial councils, small businesses, franchises and business brokers and may include Australian destinations. Support services will also be on offer including career coaches, recruitment consultants, financial advisors and accountants, advanced IT educators, real estate agents, the armed services etc.
